exploring urban paths

the interactive sound installation »grenzenlose freiheit« delegates the control over the evolution of the sonic process to up to three visitors at the same time. this is acomplished by using small wireless networked computers (pdas), which are handed out to the visitors when entering the installation.

sound material originating from different urban contexts gets overlayed, shrunk oder stretched. by using the pdas, the visitor controls the realtime sound synthesis process. he also determines the position in space where the sound projection takes place. the installation is inscribed into three contiguous rooms and uses 24 loudspeakers for the sound projection.

the collective project »grenzenlose freiheit« was developed at the electronic studio of the berlin technical university. its technical realization was supported by the fraunhofer institute for media communication, st. augustin, germany.
